Thrifty Things Friday #88

Hi Dear Friends!

happythumb

Do you remember me telling you about our “Yule log” tradition? I should you the picture of a part of last years Christmas tree that we will turn into this years Yule Log.

Troy drilled 3 holes in the log to place taper candles in and he used the smaller pieces shown above for the base to hold the log steady.

I like to keep the Yule log very simple. It just feels right to not glitz it up.

I like to surround it with trimmed off branches of this year’s Christmas tree.

It’s very simple. Nothing fancy and so not perfect. But, that is the fun of using nature.

Speaking of nature, when I opened our door I saw these two pretty deer.

We have a nature preserve right across the street from our door. So, this is a common site for us. And I just love that!

Now, let’s see what thrifty fun you have all been up to!

  6. The deer have been over here too! They sure get around! We have about 6 that come spend time in our neighbor's yard every day. With our dog Jesse they don't come too close to the house though they will take a shortcut through the front yard sometimes!

The yule log is a great idea and I love the more natural look to Christmas this year.

  12. I love that you make a yule log from last year's tree. And I love the beautiful simplicity of the greenery and the red candles. The deer look like they've got a piece of pumpkin... do they like pumpkin? I've still got an uncarved pumpkin (leftover from halloween) out on the back deck, and I guess I could take it down to the creek where we see deer from time to time, if that would mean good healthy food for the deer.
