Hi everyone and welcome to Thrifty Things Friday!
My post today is a little different. I want to talk about thrifting for others. I am a member of the local Garden Club and one of the things we do is make small floral arrangements for a Hospice House.
A local flower shop donates a box of flowers and we work with what is given to us.
We use vases that we find at flea markets, thrift stores or yard sales. And we also provide the ribbon for a small bow. So, when you see me thrift a “plain cheap vase” this is where it will go. Same goes for a lot of thrifted ribbon.
When we finish making the little arrangements, a couple of the workers at Hospice take them around to the patient’s homes. We make as many as we can from the flowers that we have. It is not much but, I know that someone will appreciate it.
Thrifting can brighten someone else’s day and that always makes me happy! So, if you have a bunch of vases like these and want to get rid of them, check your local Hospice.

Diann what a great thing to do. I use to take vases to a gal who took their church flowers each Sunday night and made little bouquets for shut ins. Thrifting can help others. Hugs, Linda

Diann, that is so sweet..My youngest daughter is a Clinical Supervisor RN for Hospice ..and believe me when I say " the patients , REALLY, appreciate any gifts they receive"..

ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful idea! There is an inpatient Hospice Unit in the building that i work in. It is rented out and not part of the Health System that I work for. This is such a wonderful Idea. I will have to check into doing something like that for the unit where I work.

ReplyDeleteMany of the items I pick up find their way to other charitable causes I help fundraise for.
My goals are to do more crafting and donate finished projects for such good causes.
Working with hospice is a great way to be of service.
