Here is my thrifty tablescape for October!

TT4 046Trying to ease into Fall is not always an easy thing for me. I chose to use hues of purple and green with late summer/early fall fruit.

TT4 042Sorry for the blurry pic. I started with these deep plum placemats. I got a set of 4 of them for .35 cents. They were .71 cents but, I bought them and most of the rest of the items on this tablescape on 50% off day at the thrift store.

TT4 062    These beautiful rich colored fruit plates were originally from Pier 1 Imports (according to the makers mark on back). I only have 2 of them. They were in a metal decorative plate holder I found at the thrift store. So, for he two dinner plates and the holder, I paid $1.35.

TT4 059I used mix and match vintage flatware at .05 cents each.

TT4 057I purchased a set of 4 of these white frosted cups for $1.00.

TT4 088The green stems were .20 cents each and the vintage green glasses were .10 cents each. Geez, that glass looks cloudy! It didn’t look that way in real life. Honest! LOL

TT4 054

TT4 109 I decided to use these ceramic duck napkin rings because around this area we are seeing a lot of ducks out. In our little city, ducks have the right of away. There are heavy fines for hitting any duck around here.  I bought a set of 6 of these for $1.00. The gold napkins were a clearance at either Walmart of the Christmas Tree Shops years ago.

TT4 028  For the centerpiece I used a bamboo table runner (a gift years ago) and a large square wicker-ish placemat that I purchased at a thrift store a year or so ago (set of 4 for about $1.00). I placed my hand carved old bowl on top. This wooden bowl was my grandmothers. She always used it to hold fruit and nuts at Christmas.

TT4 049I filled it with the faux pears that came from the thrifted white tureen I showed you a couple of weeks ago.

TT4 048On one side of the wood bowl I used this grape vine design covered bowl filled with apples. I bought this bowl sometime last winter at a thrift store.

TT4 084On the other side of the wood bowl I used two old thrifted wood candlesticks, thrifted candles and hung thrifted purple, gold and orange tassels from them.   And just because I thought the color was so pretty and perfect for this table, I included a beautiful purple eggplant that we just got from one of the local produce vendors at the market.

TT4 051TT4 052

TT4 045TT4 047 TT4 053 TT4 061 A pretty sparkly apple from my stash of thrifted faux fruit.

TT4 064TT4 068  TT4 072 TT4 078 TT4 107 So, that was my thrifty transitional tablescape for October. After a rough adding up, the total cost of everything on this table is $6.35. Not bad.

    Thrifty Things Friday #27

    Hi everyone!

Well good thing I went and did a little thrifting last week because this week, I have been down for the count. Isn’t Fall and Spring the worst times for colds! One day it is warm, the next cold then rainy. A body just doesn’t have time to acclimatize. So, I am sitting her in pj’s, no makeup, scraggly ponytail, hot herbal tea and a pile of Kleenex.  TMI huh?

For the last couple of years, I have been making it a point to stop by both Dollar General and Family Dollar at the end of September. I discovered that both of these stores have some really good end of the season clearance prices on a lot of things.

Well, I wasn’t disappointed when I popped in last week. I bought these fun table linens.

TTF27 001I thought the tapestry animal prints were just so fun! I don’t have any animal print placemats or table runners but, now I do!

    TTF27 002The table runner was $5.00. I paid $1.00 for it.

TTF27 003The placemats were originally $2.00 each. I got them for .40 cents each!  They only had two. I even went to 2 other Dollar General stores in search for 2 more with no luck.

TTF27 004I just thought they were so fun and for a grand total of $1.80, I just couldn’t pass them by. They had several other styles of linens. I picked up a blue and white and a set of red and white placemats for .80 cents (for a set of 4). They are definitely more Summerish. But, the animal prints did not say summer to me at all.

For some reason some folks have had trouble leaving comments. Thank you to my friend Pat, because I was totally unaware of this. I also received an email from another follower stating the same thing. She had wanted to sign up for the giveaway so, I manually added her to my list. Who knows, probably those nasty internet Gremlins messing with us again!

I have several more giveaways coming up so, if you have a problem commenting, please send me an email and I will add you  to the list of entries.

Now the winner of the UPrinting 250 flyer giveaway is………

My friend Linda from Coastal Charm hosts a wonderful weekly party called Nifty Thrifty Tuesday. This week she talked about some etiquette regarding joining linky parties. And she talks about the frustration of the hostess of the party. It takes time to put together a linky party (and money) and we do it because we think it is fun and want others to have a place to show off their posts. Not leaving a link back to this party on your post is a rude thing to do to the hostess and to other folks that are joining the party. If you are new to joining parties or blogging and just are not sure how to do it, (a link back) please don’t hesitate to send us an email. We were all new once and needed to learn how to do things.

I encourage you to stop by Linda’s post HERE and check it out!

Don’t forget, this Saturday (Oct. 1) is this month’s Thrifty Tablescape party! I hope you will join the fun!

Little Fall Floral Filled Teacups, A Tea Setting And a Giveaway!

    Hi everyone!

Okay folks, sorry about this but, this is going to be a big honkin’ post! LOL

The other day I stopped at a small, out of the way little thrift store. This is one of those little stores that I only go to every  other month or so. They had a huge table filled with odds and ends crafting items and everything on the table was 50% off. You know that I love to buy different crafting supplies when I see them super cheap even if I have no idea what I am going to do with them at the moment.

Here is the bunch of stuff I bought.

9-11 bargains 029There was this old Better Homes and Gardens Craft Club bag of 6 Styrofoam balls and fabric to make Christmas ornaments. Well, I never pass up cheap Styrofoam when I see it.

9-11 bargains 030.80 cents and then half off? You bet!

I went to my stash of thrifted faux flowers. I knew I had to use some kind of small flowers. I found these.

9-11 bargains 031They should work. Now, what to use for the stems?  They didn’t turn out looking a lot like little pumpkins like I originally had planned but, they still look cute.

Hum, I just bought a box of odds and ends at a church rummage sale. Let’s look in there! I haven’t even gone through this box and put things away yet.

9-11 bargains 032The ladies at the church asked me what I was going to do with the bag of curly twigs that just have some leaves at the tops of them. I said I didn’t know yet. Even my mom looked at me oddly when I shoved that bag into the box. Oh ye of little faith!

With some glue and a pair of snippers, and a few lonely teacups (with no saucers…thank you Miss Heidi!) I sat down to make my own little Fall flower teacups.

     Autumn 2011 082

    Insert a “stem”.

Autumn 2011 083 Glue flower heads around ball. No need to fill in the bottom because it will be in the teacup.

Autumn 2011 085Autumn 2011 087Autumn 2011 090I decided to add a couple of little pumpkin picks in there.  This was fun, easy and thrifty. So, don’t forget to use whatever you happen to have around the house and decorate with that.

Now, speaking of teacups (I am just so smooth with my segues aren’t I? LOL), I found this little creamy white teacup and luncheon plate at a thrift store (I know, you guys, at this point, would never think I just went out and bought a teacup at a regular retail store so, why do I even bother mentioning the thrift store part). I think it was probably a wedding shower party gift because it had a beautiful organza ribbon bow on it and a small bag of Jordan Almonds. Yup, it was donated just like that. I removed all that and washed the cute set.

Tea 9-26 013Tea 9-26 014Tea 9-26 015The little tea for one teapot I found last Spring at a flea market. Just a simple little pot in off white with light orange and green stripes at the base.

Tea 9-26 006I love this gorgeous copper color metallic creamer (thrift store find).

Tea 9-26 010Tea 9-26 023   It is raining again today and I have a lovely head cold going on. So, once I finish this post, I am making tea and snuggling up on the couch.

Don’t forget, this Saturday, October 1st is our monthly “Thrifty Tablescape” party! I hope you can join in the fun and play along!
