My First Fall Tea

Fall is finally found us! The A/C has been off and the windows have been opened and closed in the evening because it gets just too cool at night. I love that! I have been able to wear my snuggly pj's and enjoy hot cups of tea in the evening. Life is good!

So, I thought I would celebrate this wonderful time of the year with my first "Autumn" tea for you.



Like many of you, Fall is my favorite time of the year. It is the beginning of the holidays that seem to just sneak right up on us before we know it. The colors are magestic and awe inspiring. To look at the Lord's palette of colors is just amazing!

I had to go and pluck another one of the little white pumpkin gourds from out compost bin. They are just so pretty and perfect. Isn't it amazing what grows from what we consider waste? Once again, our Creator gives us beauty in the most unexpected places.



As is normal for me, I offer up in this tea setting mix and unmatched thrifted items. This pretty gold and creamy white creamer was a recent find at a yard sale. Nobody wanted her beause there was no matching sugar bowl. And therefore, she was only 10 cents.




I placed the pretty creamer on this beautiful Olde English Countryside Johnson Bros. Ironstone saucer. The perfect little plate for a Fall tea.

Though I cannot flee from the world...I can prepare tea with water from a mountain stream and put my heart to rest ~ Ueda Akinari





I found this pretty little Bermuda Pottery ceramic leaf at a flea market for .25 cents. It works wonderful as a spoon or teabag rest.




The teacup and saucer I decided to use for this first of many Fall teas is one of my favorites. I love the old village scene on it and the beautiful shades of brown. I only have this one, but I keep an eye out for more. I would love to have a whole set of these.

Just a simple pottery candle holder for large candles. I got this some time ago for .50 cents at a thrift store. Sometimes, simple and plain is perfect.




The tea setting is on a thrifted bamboo matchstick tray with a pretty dollar store Fall dishtowel.




And you all know how I love to layer my linens. It just adds so much more beauty to the tray. I layered this lovely lace table runner over the dishcloth. And I added this pretty little embroidered hankie as a napkin. Both of these beautiful pieces were from the lovely Adrienne. I told you yesterday about her generous gift of vintage linens she sent me!

The teapot I am using is just a simple stoneware pot. But, it is one of my biggest teapots and sometimes I want a larger pot so I don't have to make more tea if I am spending some time all cuddled into a quilt with a good book.

In the 1200's, the Chinese began to brew tea leaves the way we currently do. For this, they cleaverly invented the teapot.

Tea may be taken plain, with milk, with honey, with sugar, or with lemon. But, never add lemon and milk at the same time. The lemon curdles the milk , which can ruin a nice cup of tea.

I hope you enjoyed my first Fall tea. I thought I would include a simple tea favorite treat recipe with you.

Shortbread

2 sticks of softened butter
2 cups of flour
1/2 cup of confectioner's sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
Preheat oven to 325. In a medium bowl, beat butter until creamy. In another bowl, mix flour, sugar and salt. Add dry mixture to creamed butter. Stir well, unitl consistency of dough. Press dough into an ungreased 9x9 pan. Use a fork to prick the dough all over, about 20 times. Bake for 25 minutes or until done. While shortbread is still warm, cut into squares.
